Facebook Comes Up With Latest Mobile Feature ‘Find Friends Nearby’

Ryan Patterson, software Engineer of Facebook, recently launched Facebook’s new feature known as ‘Find Friends Nearby.’  This new mobile version can trace your friends nearby and even the people you might know. The app created by Facebook engineer Ryan Patterson was initially named as “Friendshake” but was finally settled as “Find Friends Nearby” and can be accessed through a URL http://fb.com/ffn
You can access this new feature by going to menu > apps > find friends > other tools > Find Friends Nearby in your mobile Facebook app. “Find Friends Nearby” can locate your friends at nearby events or locations without searching them by their name. FFN app can locate acquaintances only if they are also logged into Facebook and FFN platform. However, FFN don’t work as a friend tracker but can only be used to add new friends. Is it true ….! 🙁

Ryan Patterson wrote on his Facebook Wall,

“I built Find Friends Nearby with another engineer for a hackathon project. While it was originally called ‘Friendshake’, we settled on ‘Find Friends Nearby’ for launch (the URL was a little bit of homage to the previous iteration).

For me, the ideal use case for this product is the one where when you’re out with a group of people whom you’ve recently met and want to stay in contact with. Facebook search might be effective, or sharing your vanity addresses or business cards, but this tool provides a really easy way to exchange contact information with multiple people with minimal friction.”

Many on web are assuming that the idea of creating this new feature actually originated from Glancee (a location-based social discovery app) who also promoted an identical concept but Glancee was acquired by Facebook few months back. Though the list of such App acclaims are not ending and Friendthem, wrote to Huffington Post alleging Facebook of ripping his product. (Read More on Huffington Post)
