Buzzing with Uncommon Words on Teacher’s Day

Learn Vocabulary

Teaching is no doubt one of the noblest jobs in the world. Often a cartoon used to get published in the old editions of Indian Newspapers where the teachers were depicted as a pencil and the students as a sharpener.

India has been very fortunate of getting the wisest presidents for our constitution. One of them who introduced the “Teacher’s Day” in our country was Dr. Radhakrishnan. On getting the presidency of India, few of his students and friends seek permission to celebrate his birthday on to which he replied, “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day.”

Since then 5th September is marked as a ‘Teacher’s Day’ and an amazing initiative was laced by the wise man to remember the architects of our brain. To commemorate Dr. Radhakrishnan and his initiative the #ProudKVRians are observing 5th September, 2018 a day to learn and share the unexplored vocabularies with an interactive game. Each pair of employees in both the shifts has been given a choice of sharing an unusual word with the rest of the staffs by chalking it on the board.

WHAT IS BEING DONE?

Each day a set of two words are listed. So, every day employees get to learn two new words, adding something useful to their pockets. The entire directory of the listed words will be then compiled into a form of test giving it a shade of nostalgia.

Basically, once again the employees will go back in the era of school exams to cherish those moments. And the highest scorer gets the reward, similar to the “Laddoo”, a sweet dish which has been in the culture since ages to celebrate any sort of winning.

So far the words which have been listed by KVRians are:

  1. Orgulous – Proud
  2. Chock-a-block – Completely full
  3. Ineffable – Too great to be expressed in words
  4. Equivocate – use ambiguous language so as to conceal the truth
  5. Futz – Waste of time, idle or busy oneself aimlessly
  6. Propensity – Tendency or habit
  7. Abecedarian – One learning the rudiments of something
  8. Smattering – A slight knowledge of something
  9. Odious -Extremely unpleasant
  10. Tenacious – To keep a firm hold of something
  11. Subsist – To manage or live with little money or food
  12. Collywobbles – Stomach ache
  13. Hocus-pocus – Meaningless talk or activity, typically defined to trick someone
  14. Eucatastrophe – A sudden and favorable resolution of events in a story; a happy ending.
  15. Bibliophile – Lover of books
  16. Nifty – Very good

Remember, teaching is not just about imparting knowledge, but it gives you the way to walk into the world of diversity.

Happy Teacher’s Day in Advance and all the best KVRians for the TEST!
