9 Haunted Places in India (You Better Carry HanumaanChaalisa)

A woman in white Sari roaming 3 feet above the land…strange voices are coming from a deserted building for no reason…and there is a weeping kid that is likely to get disappeared when someone approaches him.

Well, these are some perfect ingredients (or clichés) of any horror film.

What if I tell you that some of these incidents are actually reported in several places across the nation?

After all, India is the home of several mysterious places—or in better sense—haunted places. To make them even spookier, these places are associated with several macabre details and scary folklores.

If you are brave, heart enough, pack your bag, and rush to one of these haunted places in India.

Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan:

Even the government of India has “indirectly” admitted the spooky fact of Bhangarh Fort.

At the entrance of its ruin, Archaeological Survey of India has installed a board reading “Entry is strictly prohibited after sunset and before sunrise.”

Located in the Aravali Range and built in the 17th century, Bhangarh Fort attracts visitors from India and abroad due to spooky tales constructed around it.

What made this fort haunted?

As legends say, there was a magician who was charmed by the beauty of Princess Ratnavati. But the latter refused his marriage proposal, which made him unhappy. The magician cursed the fort upon his death that no one would ever live here.

Consequently, all the inhabitants were suddenly died along with the Princess. Since then, the fort is left abandoned.

GP Block, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh:

It doesn’t mean a haunted building must be located in a deserted place, far off from the population. Sometimes exception comes as GP Block, which is situated in the populated colony in Meerut. According to locals, they have spotted four men drinking beer in candlelight on its rooftop. Besides, on several occasions, they have reported a woman wearing a red dress coming out of the home.

Dumas Beach, Gujarat:

Dumas Beach, like any beach, looks beautiful in the daytime and is packed with people till evening. But at midnight, no one dare go there as it is approached by the spirits, as locals say. It is also noted that the beach was used as the cremation ground in the past. It is believed that the beach is echoed with mysterious voices. Apart from that, many people are said to be found missing while taking a stroll at midnight, and they never come back.

Delhi Cantt, Delhi:

Careful! If you are driving on the lonely places in Delhi Cantt, you may be asked for a lift by a lady in a white saree. If you refuse, she will be after you with speed and ahead of your car. Something scary you don’t want to experience…

Mukesh Mills, Mumbai:

So far, you have read the haunting spots, including beach, fort, house, and road. Here comes an abandoned mill in Mumbai, Mukesh Mill, which is also the popular shooting spot in the city. Due to the reports of several paranormal activities, many actors and directors have stopped shooting here. The mill has been abandoned since 1980 when the fire broke out here.

Shaniwarwada Fort, Pune:

Shaniwar Wada is one of the iconic forts in Pune. But this fort is associated with a bloody tale of betrayal.

Shaniwarwada Fort is said to be haunted by the spirit of the young Prince, Peshwa Narayan Rao, who was got brutally assassinated inside the fort by his relatives.

Many visitors and the staff have claimed to hear the screams “Kaka Mala Vachava (Uncle, please save me) of the Prince in the full moon nights.

Brij Raj Bhavan Palace, Kota, Rajasthan:

The architectural wonders of Rajasthan also include several mysterious places, and Brij Raj Bhavan in Kota is one of them. It is said that the palace is haunted by the spirit of Major Burton and his two sons, who were killed by the Indian sepoys in the 1857 revolt. According to the visitors, the ghost of Major Burton does not stalk anybody but can slap the guard if they found sleeping.

Dow Hill, Kurseong, West Bengal:

If stories are to be believed, many spirits are wandering in the forest area of Dow Hill because of the murders occurred here. According to locals, they have seen the headless boy at the infamous Death Road, a route between Dow Hill Road and Forest Office. Locals also claim the footsteps and whispering at the vacated campus of Victoria Boys School. Dow Hill is located in Darjeeling and is as spooky as beautiful.

Savoy Hotel, Mussoorie:

Among the scenic views in Mussoorie, there is one place that is disturbed by strange noises and ghostly appearances. It is said that the Savoy Hotel in Mussoorie is haunted by a spirit of Lady Garnet Orme, who was found dead in one of the hotel’s rooms. The incident inspired Agatha Christie to write her best seller, “The Mysterious Affair at Styles.”
